رجحت منظمة الصحة العالمية موت حوالي 500 ألف شخص في أوروبا في فصل الشتاء بكورونا، إذا لم تقدم الدول الأوروبية على تشديد القيود وتكثيف حملات التطعيم ضد الفيروس.
وقال مدير المكتب الأوروبي لمنظمة الصحة العالمية هانز كلوغ في تصريح لهيئة الإذاعة البريطانية “بي بي سي” إن المنظمة “قلقة للغاية” من انتشار كورونا في أوروبا جراء الموجة الجديدة للفيروس.
وأضاف: “قد يموت حوالي 500 ألف شخص في أوروبا حتى مارس نتيجة جائحة كورونا، إذا لم تشدد دول المنطقة القيود وتتخذ إجراءات عاجلة”.
وأشار إلى أن “فصل الشتاء وعدم وجود كميات من اللقاحات المضادة للفيروس قادرة على تغطية حملات التطعيم، وسلالة دلتا المتحورة الأسرع انتشارا، كانت وراء احتدام الوباء”.
ودعا إلى زيادة الإقبال على اللقاحات وتنفيذ إجراءات الصحة العامة الأساسية والعلاجات الطبية الجديدة للمساعدة في مكافحة الجائحة.
وأكد أنه “يجب التعامل مع إلزامية التطعيم على أنها الملاذ الأخير” لمكافحة الفيروس… سيكون من المناسب جدا بدء مناقشة تشريعية وعامة” حول إلزامية التطعيم.
ويأتي هذا التحذير تزامنا مع إعلان عدة دول أوروبية عن تسجيل معدلات قياسية جديدة للإصابات بالفيروس، وفرض إغلاق كامل أو جزئي للحد من انتشاره.
