في أول رد رسمي، للمغرب على سقوط نظام بشار الأسد في سوريا، قال وزير الشؤون الخارجية والتعاون الإفريقي والمغاربة المقيمين بالخارج، ناصر بوريطة، إن المملكة المغربية، بتعليمات من الملك محمد السادس، تسعى دائما للحفاظ على الوحدة الترابية والسيادة الوطنية ووحدة الشعب السوري، وهذا موقف ثابت للمملكة.
وذكر بوريطة، بأن المغرب في 2012، كان قد أغلق سفارته في دمشق، كما طلب بإغلاق سفارة سوريا” وبالتالي فإن المملكة كانت دائما، تدفع بما فيه، من إصلاحات استقرار، لسيادة ووحدة سوريا وما يحقق تطلعات الشعب”.
