بدأ أسود الأطلس اللقاء بقوة وأتيحت لهم فرصة التقدم مبكرا بعد أن احتسب حكم اللقاء ركلة جزاء لصالحهم في الدقيقة الثانية من عمر المباراة، انبرى لها أشرف حكيمي لكنه سددها فوق العارضة.
وواصل المنتخب المغربي ضغطه على مرمى المنتخب المضيف لينجح في افتتاح التسجيل في الدقيقة ال28 بفضل تسديدة قوية لحكيم زياش من مسافة بعيدة خدعت حارس مرمى تنزانيا.
وكثف الأسود من محاولاتهم لتعزيز النتيجة وكانوا قريبين من إحراز هدف ثان في العديد من المناسبات، لاسيما من تسديدة قوية لحكيم زياش كادت أن تغالط الحارس التنزاني في آخر آنفاس الشوط الأول.
ولم يكن الشوط الثاني مغايرا لسابقه، حيث واصل المنتخب الوطني محاولاته لتعزيز تقدمه، وتأتى له ذلك في الدقيقة ال54 عندما أحرز لوساجو موايكندا هدفا بالخطأ في مرماه بعد أن أرسل بلال الخنوس تمريرة عرضية تابعها يوسف النصيري لترتطم الكرة بالمدافع التنزاني وتعانق المرمى.
واضطر المنتخب التنزاني لإكمال المباراة بعشرة لاعبين بعد طرد مدافعه نوفاتوس ميروشي في الدقيقة ال65 بعد حصوله على الإنذار الثاني.
وبفضل هذا الانتصار ارتقى المنتخب الوطني إلى صدارة المجموعة برصيد ثلاث نقاط من مباراة واحدة بفارق الأهداف أمام منتخبات زامبيا والنيجر وتنزانيا التي خاضت مباراتين، فيما يتذيل منتخب الكونغو ترتيب المجموعة من دون نقاط بعد خوضه لمباراة واحدة.
